Oral Manifestations of Thyroid Disorders

The thyroxine hormone is a major metabolic regulator that has an impact on all body activities. Abnormality in thyroid functioning is the second most prevalent endocrine system abnormality, and it can affect any system in the body including the oral cavity. Nevertheless, the excess or shortage of these hormones has a negative impact on the oral cavity. The oral physician as well as the endocrinologist must be conversant with the oral symptoms of thyroid gland dysfunctions so as to provide appropriate treatment.
